Do you ask your patients about smoking cessation?

Smoking cessation programmes delivered via mobile phone text messaging show increases in self reported quitting in the short term. We assessed the effect of an automated smoking cessation programme delivered via mobile phone text messaging on continuous abstinence, which was biochemically verified at 6 months.

The Henry Ford Health System, in conjunction with the Joint Commission, has released a how-to manual for healthcare organizations looking to sustain and enforce their smoke-free hospital property policies.

The 28-page manual, “Keeping Your Hospital Property Smoke-Free,” is the result of a four-year research project funded by the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The manual is available on the Joint Commission’s website.
